Having stilled the mind and accessed our centre through meditation, opened the body joints through exercise, and enlivened our body and mind through pumping the Chi, we can now utilise it. Physical Applications As we learn to use the mind to direct Chi within the body, balancing of our bodily systems will be achieved. Energy will flow around the body more freely, opening up energy blockages and restoring any energy depletion, bringing corresponding physical benefits. The immune system is improved, agility, speed and balance is improved and the body is kept supple into old age. Function of internal organs, glands and joints is improved, giving greater vitality and mental alertness. We can also become sensitive to the energy in our surroundings and other people. We can also transmit energy beyond our body, meaning that healing others becomes a possibility by directing compassionate intent in their direction. This is particularly effective if a group of individuals works together. Examining the process more deeply, we can understand that the physical energy development comes with mental, emotional and spiritual counterparts. Mental Applications The mind will become balanced, open, and calm. A certain amount of control over mental states should be possible, even in difficult situations. Major advantages gained for everyday life include: (1) Alertness. (2) Clarity of mental focus and intention. (3) Stress reduction. (4) Increased creativity. (5) Improved judgement. Emotional Applications An important aspect is development of a heightened awareness of the connection between the working of the mind and the state of the body. Any emotional trauma built up is stored in various parts of the body. This can be released by both the physical and mental aspects of Chi Kung practice. Negative mental states are reduced or transformed into positive mental states, bringing emotional stability and a feeling of security. This, in turn, means we increase our self confidence and feel more able to come to terms with our anxieties and fears. Because we have increased our own emotional stability and happiness, we can favourably affect others around us. Also, difficulty in interpersonal relationships can be resolved. Other applications include combating depression, panic attacks, anger and addictions. Spiritual Applications Our minds are calmed through the practice of Chi Kung. If our minds are calmed, our sensitivity increases and, hence, our perception and awareness of ourselves and our surroundings increases. This heightened awareness can be taken out of the Chi Kung practice and applied to our life experiences throughout the day. Through our heightened awareness, we gain insight into our life situations and our thoughts are harmonised with our natural source of love and wisdom. Our state of mind actually has a great affect on our experience of life, because many of the problems encountered in life do not actually exist - they are a creation of our own attitude to what happens to us in life. As Chi Kung creates calming of the mind, this calming will create corresponding changes in our experience. |
